Krishna Menon Museum and Art Gallery
Art Gallery and Krishna Menon Museum is located in East Hill region of Kozhikode is one of the leading cultural institutions of the Malabar region. This establishment is a prominent tourist destination in Kozhikode district. The institution is housed in a building that is more than 200 years old and collectors like William Logan, author of the 'Malabar Manual' lived in this building. The building remained the Collector's official bungalow until 1960, after which it remains the Krishna Menon Museum under the Museum Zoo Department and an Art gallery exhibiting Ravi Varma paintings.
This establishment is set in a 3 Acres of beautiful garden, with medicinal garden and butterfly garden. The museum campus and 3D theatre are used as a venue for various educational, film festivals and cultural activities.
Art Gallery
The art gallery was established in 1975. The gallery collections include the works of world-class painter Rajaravi Varma, and other renowned Kerala painters. In total, the gallery displays 66 paintings including - wall paintings, Bengal school paintings, upper Rajasthan paintings and paintings by contemporary painters. Apart from this, sculptures in wood, ivory and metal are also displayed in the art gallery.
VK Krishna Menon Museum
The Krishna Menon Museum was started in the building in 1976 as a memorial to Shri VK Krishna Menon (1896-1974), India's National Defence Minister and a native of Kozhikode. Various items used by him, items he received as gifts from various individuals and institutions, and photographs depicting various moments in his life are displayed in this museum. The museum stands as an institution that imparts knowledge about this great person to the visitors.
