Kunkichira Heritage Museum
Kunkichira Heritage Museum situated at Kunhome in Wayanad District is a new museum opened to public on 8 th October 2023. This 17,000 square feet museum was erected at a historical site comprising of 8.11 acre of land. Wayanad, the panoramic hill of Malabar in the northern Kerala, situated above the sea level ranges between 700 meters to 2100 meters, is a homeland of various tribal communities. The museum is dealt with biodiversity and cultural richness of Wayanad, the traditional objects used by the tribal communities are mainly showcased here.
The museum has 15 pavilions in zones followed by 3 major zones in which the history of the land and its people, legends, rituals, tribal medicine, tribal people struggles, tribal Language, handicrafts, seeds, tribal housing models, construction weapons, tribal ethnicity, biodiversity of the wayanad etc are arranged systematically. In addition to this, Explanatory videos, Audio segments, Interactive, panels and installations are all set up in the museum. An important element of this museum is the life of tribal people which is elaborated in a terracotta panel is the best of its kind in Kerala and also considered as a largest display till.
